UFC officials swerved the MMA world today when Ronda Rousey announced her next opponent will be former boxing champion Holly Holm, and not Miesha Tate, as previously expected.
Holm (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will challenge Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) for her women’s bantamweight champion on Jan. 2 at UFC 195, which takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
With just two UFC fights under her belt, Holm might not be the most well known member of the 135-pound weight class, but she certainly has the credentials to challenge “Rowdy” for UFC gold in a major pay-per-view event.

Holm made her pro boxing debut in January 2002.
Holm won multiple championships and “Female Fight of the Year” awards during her accomplished boxing career.
Holm earned a 33-2-3 record during her pro boxing run before she retired from the sport after her final bout in May 2013.
Holm made her pro MMA debut in March 2011, training out of Team Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque.
Holm earned her first MMA title when she won the inaugural Legacy FC women’s bantamweight championship in April 2014.
Holm officially signed with the UFC in July 2014 and made her promotional debut at UFC 184 in February with a split-decision victory over Raquel Pennington.
Holm has earned six career victories by knockout.
Holm has stopped opponents by punches, leg kick, body kick and head kick.
Holm has earned both of her UFC victories by decision.
Holm has outlanded her two UFC opponents 109-66 in significant strikes.
Holm’s striking defense rate of 69 percent in UFC competition is solidly above the UFC average of 58 percent.

Holm will become the fifth title challenger in UFC history to bring an undefeated record into a championship bout. Three of the previous four have also been Rousey opponents.
Holm, 5-8, will be the tallest opponent Rousey has faced under the UFC banner.
