What if Patrick Cummins beats Daniel Cormier?

When Rashad Evans pulled out of his UFC 170 light heavyweight bout against Daniel Cormier, it certainly cast a cloud over the forecast of the anticipated fight card. Sure, the biggest thing in women's MMA, Ronda Rousey, was still headlining, looking to prove she can carry a show and snap the arm of the most accomplished wrestler she's faced to date in the form of Sara McMann.

The card suddely lacked that smashing co-main event it needed though. What would Dana White and Company do? Well, Cormier was determined to fight onward; fueled by the training and weight cut he embarked upon for his light heavy debut, but there didn't seem to be any viable takers in the UFC ranks.

Then stepped in Patrick Cummins. Who? Yea, that was the question swirling the scene after the 4-0 Cummins called out Cormier on the web, somehow caught the eye of the UFC, and suddenly had a contract.

Cormier (13-0) and Cummins have faced off before as training partners, and Cummins even stated he had made Cormier cry. While Cummins is a former All American Wrestler, lets not forget that he was working in a coffee shop and hadn't fought in nearly a year prior to the UFC call.

Now maybe the UFC is hoping for a Cinderella story here, and the melee that ensued at the press conference earlier this week will help spur PPV sales, but what does this matchup really do for Daniel Cormier?

A win over the unknown Cummins will do little to prove Cormier deserves the title shot against Jon Jones and a loss.....well......a loss would be devestating. Lot's to loose and little to gain for Cormier on this one. But, the show will go on. Here's hoping for an unexpectedly adventurous fight in Vegas and we shall see how this all pans out.
