A welterweight confrontation between Erick Silva and Charlie Brenneman is in the works for UFC on FX 3, Sherdog.com confirmed with a source close to the bout Tuesday.

Brazilian outlet Globo first reported the planned matchup. UFC on FX 3 takes place June 8, but a hosting venue has not yet been decided. The event will showcase a flyweight tournament semifinal rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall.

“Mighty Mouse” and “Uncle Creepy” fought to a draw at UFC on FX 2, though the bout was incorrectly announced as a decision win for Johnson. Due to the scorekeeping error, a “sudden victory” round was not contested, and a rematch was booked. The winner will square off with Joseph Benavidez to decide the UFC’s inaugural 125-pound champion.

Silva, 27, recently had a four-fight winning streak halted amid controversy when the former Jungle Fight champ was disqualified in his sophomore Octagon outing at UFC 142. After dropping Carlo Prater early in their Jan. 14 affair, Silva appeared to finish his wounded opponent and collect another victory. However, referee Mario Yamasaki revealed after the contest that Silva had been disqualified for landing strikes to the back of Prater’s head. The loss marked just the second defeat of Silva’s career and the first since 2006.

Brenneman has won three of his last four, posting victories over Amilcar Alves and Rick Story to kick of 2011 before closing the year with a knockout defeat to Anthony Johnson. Most recently, the AMA Fight Club representative was victorious at UFC on FX 1, taking a unanimous verdict from Daniel Roberts on Jan. 20. The 31-year-old “Spaniard” holds seven of his 15 victories by knockout or submission but has yet to earn a stoppage during his UFC tenure.
