The "new beginning" isn't starting off so well for "The Young Assassin."

Who said making weight was easy?

After being cut from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Melvin Guillard declared his release was "the best thing that could have happened."

On the eve of his first fight with upstart promotion World Series of Fighting (WSOF), things aren't going so well.

"The Young Assassin" came in heavy for his main card clash against Gesias Cavalcante, which is being contested at lightweight. Guillard missed weight after coming in at 159.4, and has two hours to make the lightweight limit.

The Louisiana native has missed weight before, coming in fat against Donald Cerrone at UFC 150.

But that wasn't the only weigh-in head-scratcher from earlier today.

Former UFC veterans Jon Fitch and Dennis Hallman were supposed to duke it out against each other in a welterweight showdown, yet both athletes came in around the 180-pound mark. Fitch weighed in at 183, while his opponent came in at 181.3.

According to WSOF's Twitter account, their bout will now be contested at middleweight.

Also, Cody Bollinger, who was kicked off The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 for missing weight badly, tipped the scales at 138.4 for his bantamweight bout against Pablo Alfonso. Apparently, he will not attempt to cut the additional weight and will be fined for his scale fail.

It's never a dull day in regional MMA.
