Vitor Belfort-Tim Kennedy Matchup Rumored For Upcoming UFC Card in Brazil

Vitor Belfort may not have received the middleweight title shot he desired, but it appears “The Phenom” will get a chance to extend his recent run of dominance on Brazilian soil sometime in the near future.

UFC President Dana White told MMAFighting.com on Friday that a bout pitting Belfort against Tim Kennedy is in the works for an upcoming card in Brazil. The UFC has not officially announced the pairing, and White did not say at which event the fight would take place.

Kennedy later confirmed the matchup on his Twitter account. “I’m going to Brazil to fight Vitor,” he wrote. “I’m bringing ranger panties, Greg Jackson and Ranger Up.”

Belfort has already scored a pair of spectacular knockouts against Top 10 middleweights thus far in 2012, stopping Michael Bisping with a head kick and follow-up punches at UFC on FX 7 before finishing Luke Rockhold with a spinning heel kick at UFC on FX 8. Since 2007, the Blackzilians representative has only lost to Anderson Silva and Jon Jones.

An eight-time Strikeforce veteran, Kennedy captured a unanimous decision over Roger Gracie in his Octagon debut at UFC 162. The Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts product twice challenged for the Strikeforce 185-pound strap, losing five-round verdicts to both Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza.
