Barring another title run, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar likely will best be remembered for a three-fight series with Gray Maynard.

Edgar (15-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC), who next fights featherweight Charles Oliveira (16-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) on July 6 on the UFC 162 pay-per-view main card, was trying to get his first win against Maynard when they met for the third time.

In 2008, when both were early in their UFC careers, Edgar suffered a decision loss to Maynard. Then, after winning the title from B.J. Penn in 2010, he fought Maynard in a rematch and settled for a split draw in 2011.

But at UFC 136 in late 2010, Edgar got a third shot to defeat Maynard for the first time. And he made the most of it.
