CHICAGO – Despite a split with Duke Roufus’ famed Roufusport camp, Chico Camus is holding out hope he can still reunite with his former home down the road.
Camus (14-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) picked up his sixth win in seven fights by defeating bantamweight Yaotzin Meza (20-9 MMA, 1-2 UFC) via decision on Saturday at UFC on FOX 10 at Chicago’s United Center.
Camus, who competed on the FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary card, visited multiple gyms to prepare for the bout.
“I actually did my camp at a few different places,” he told MMAjunkie after the fight. “I’m not really at Roufusport no more. We kind of had a falling out. I don’t know where that’s going to go.”
But is there a chance he could return? Camus said he misses his coaches, teammates and Roufusport’s environment. He’s holding out hope, but if it doesn’t happen, he think his now-promising career, which includes a 3-1 UFC record, will continue.
“I think there’s always a chance,” said Camus, who said he didn’t talk to Roufus at the event. “I don’t hate anybody or hold grudges toward anybody. It’s just a misunderstanding. He felt a certain way, and I felt a certain way. I wish them nothing but the best. I mean, I came out on this card and won, so I think that says a lot about me. … But those guys were like my brothers in there, so obviously I want to get back there.”
