There has always seemed to be a special relationship between fighters and members of the military, perhaps because what each does to prepare for their respective battles is closely mirrored.

But the battles are very different. While MMA is essentially just a sports competition, what the troops put themselves through is in sacrifice to protect the rest of us – to make sure fighters still have the opportunity to put on shows inside the cage.

That’s not lost on fighters before the UFC puts on its third “Fight for the Troops” show tonight at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

Ahead of UFC Fight Night 31, take a look at what fighters like B.J. Penn, Urijah Faber, Miesha Tate, Mark Munoz, Travis Browne, Scott Jorgensen and Court McGee have to say about the relationship between fighters and the military.

Check out the video above, then don’t miss today’s UFC Fight Night 31, which has prelims on (3:15 p.m. ET) and FOX Sports 1 (5 p.m. ET) before a main card on FOX Sports 1 (7 p.m. ET).
