Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate might be chalking Tuesday’s news up to fate. It’s likely Cat Zingano doesn’t feel that way, but there’s no turning back now.

The UFC announced that Zingano recently has suffered a knee injury. On Tuesday, she had surgery. But the development left her out of her coaching spot opposite UFC women’s bantamweight champion Rousey for Season 18 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

So when Rousey showed up in Las Vegas on Tuesday to start filming the show, which airs starting Sept. 4 on FOX Sports 1, she was in for a big surprised when Tate was there waiting as her opposing coach – and her opponent in her next title defense later this year.

Zingano beat Tate in April with a third-round TKO to earn her “TUF 18? coaching spot and title shot. But the show must go on, despite her injury, and Tate becomes the surprise benefactor. Tate and Rousey, of course, have the biggest rivalry in women’s MMA. They fought in March 2012 in Strikeforce, and Rousey submitted Tate with a first-round armbar – the only way she’s ever won any fight. Now the rematch is set, and Tate will get a chance to reclaim her title – despite coming off a loss.

Check out the video above of Rousey, Tate and UFC President Dana White reacting to the news of the switch.
