Video: Liz Carmouche looking for return to title contention vs. Miesha Tate

Liz Carmouche has gotten close to championship greatness once before, and come up short.

Now she wants to put herself back in position to chase that UFC title dream, and it starts back up again on Saturday.

Carmouche made her UFC debut at UFC 157, fighting then-new women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey for the title. She lost by first-round armbar.

After bouncing back with a TKO win over Jessica Andrade, she dropped a decision to Alexis Davis this past November – and Davis now will challenge Rousey for the title in July.

In the UFC on FOX 11 co-main event this week, Carmouche (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) meets Miesha Tate (13-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who had a title shot, herself, in December.

“Miesha is a really well-rounded fighter. She ties all the pieces together, so it will be a great fight for me because there’s challenges on every level,” Carmouche said.

“A win over Miesha does a lot for me. Both of us are in a position where we’ve lost more fights than we should have in the UFC, and we’re coming up on that point where we really have to prove ourselves in the rankings. This will help solidify myself in the rankings and solidify me as a contender. My ultimate goal is to be champion and be the best in the world.”
