Video: Ex-WEC champ Miguel Torres picks up first win in more than two years

For the first since November 2011 – a span of more than two years – former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres is back in the winner’s circle.

The 33-year-old Torres (41-7), who’s competed for organizations ranging from the WEC to UFC to Word Series of Fighting, defeated Giovanni Moljo (4-6) at “United Combat League: Havoc in Hammond” this past Saturday in Indiana.

The pro-Torres crowd saw a lopsided win for the Chicago-area fighter, who picked up 30-27 scores on all three judges’ cards.

While he was a heavy favorite over a clearly outmatched opponent, Torres picked up a much-needed win. The UFC released the fighter after a 2-2 run in the organization, and Torres then signed with WSOF, where he suffered consecutive losses to Marlon Moraes and Pablo Alfonso. His weekend win was his first since a decision victory over Nick Pace at UFC 139.

Torres competed in Hammond for the first time in seven years. Before signing with the WEC and becoming one of the organization’s most recognizable stars, Torres excelled on the regional scene. He ultimately ran his record to 37-1, which included winning the WEC belt and defending it three times. He followed it with a 3-6 record before his latest victory.
