Video: Emotional Frank Trevino discusses the funeral he missed for UFC 171 fight camp

DALLAS – After his long-awaited UFC debut on Saturday at UFC 171, bottled-up emotions finally got the best of Frank Trevino.

Trevino (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) remained unbeaten after scoring a decision victory over fellow lightweight Renee Forte (8-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) on the UFC Fight Pass-streamed preliminary card of the Dallas event.

After the win, Trevino spoke to reporters about the death of his grandmother, which occurred just a month into fight camp.

“I just wanted to dedicate this fight to her,” said Trevino while fighting back tears. “She was always there for me. She raised since I was a little kid. She was always there for me. I love this lady with all my heart. It was a shame to me that I couldn’t be there at her funeral while I was in camp.

“My parents understood, but as soon as I’m done here, I’m going to go home and visit her grave.”

Check out the full conversation, which includes Trevino’s plans to fight at the UFC’s debut event in Mexico, above.
