Video: Check out the best head-kick knockouts in UFC history

The owner of the best head-kick in UFC history returns this week at UFC 166, and to celebrate you can watch his amazing knockout and seven other legendary head kicks.

At UFC 70 in 2007, Gabriel Gonzaga stopped Mirko Filipovic with the very same move that made “Cro Cop” famous – a massive kick to the head. The win got Gonzaga a shot at Randy Couture for the heavyweight title.

This week, the resurgent Gonzaga, who has won three of his past four in the UFC and four of five overall, returns to the octagon after a 17-second knockout of Dave Herman in July. Gonzaga (15-7 MMA, 10-6 UFC) takes on Shawn Jordan (15-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) on the main card of UFC 166 in Houston.

Will another head kick win be in the cards? That, of course, remains to be seen. But as of now, Gonzaga tops the list UFC commentator Joe Rogan put together of his “Ultimate Eight” head-kick knockouts, a list that includes champions and former champs like Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Lyoto Machida, Anthony Pettis and Rashad Evans. For that matter, the list of fighters on the wrong side of some of those head kicks is pretty impressive, including Matt Hughes, Couture and Vitor Belfort.

Check out the video above, and then tune in Saturday to UFC 166, which has a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.

Rogan’s list includes:

  • 1. Gabriel Gonzaga def. Mirko Filipovic at UFC 70
  • 2. Edson Barboza def. Terry Etim at UFC 142
  • 3. Anderson Silva def. Vitor Belfort at UFC 126
  • 4. Lyoto Machida def. Randy Couture at UFC 129
  • 5. Anthony Pettis def. Joe Lauzon at UFC 144
  • 6. Rashad Evans def. Sean Salmon at UFC Fight Night 8
  • 7. Georges St-Pierre def. Matt Hughes at UFC 65
  • 8. Alan Belcher def. Jorge Santiago at UFC Fight Night 7
