In the wake of UFC 151’s unexpected cancellation on Thursday, UFC President Dana White stated that the promotion’s next show, a Sept. 22 offering in Toronto, would become the new UFC 151. However, that plan has changed, according to a recent statement from the UFC, which asserts that the Sept. 22 bill will retain its UFC 152 moniker.

Promotion officials announced the news via Twitter shortly after the media conference call during which White initially suggested that the Sept. 1 label would be transferred to the Canadian event three weeks later. UFC 151’s cancellation came about as a result of headlining light heavyweight title challenger Dan Henderson partially tearing his MCL. Champion Jon Jones was then offered a fight with Chael Sonnen, which he turned down.

As it now stands, UFC 152 will be headlined by a new light heavyweight championship affair pitting Jones against Lyoto Machida in a rematch of their UFC 140 clash this past December. The show, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre and airs live on pay-per-view, will also see a flyweight champion crowned for the first time in the promotion’s history, as Demetrious Johnson squares off with Joseph Benavidez.
