A lot of people credit the self-help bestseller “The Secret” for their professional successes, and MMA fighters are no different.
Among the book’s champions is newly minted UFC interim featherweight title champ Conor McGregor (18-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who said the movie version changed his life and put him on the path to stardom.
After tapping out Daron Cruickshank (16-7 MMA, 6-5 UFC) this past Saturday at UFC on FOX 16, lightweight James Krause (22-7 MMA, 3-3 UFC) admitted he’s also a fan. But unlike McGregor, he’s actually read the book.
“It sounds crazy, but it’s a big part of my training camp,” he said following his first-round submission win on the FOX-televised prelims at Chicago’s United Center. “I’m a big believer in the law of attraction.”
And, he added, it wasn’t McGregor who attracted him to the book.
“I’ve actually been on it for quite some time,” Krause said. “I started it before I fought Sam Stout, but I think it’s really cool that he brings it to light. It makes it much more legitimate whenever somebody of his stature says it. Props to him.”
Two years ago, Krause tapped Stout with 13 seconds left in his UFC debut, so the book clearly had a positive effect. Although he dropped a subsequent bout to Bobby Green and went 1-2 before his win over Cruickshank, he is no less devoted to its principles.
After all, he reads up on them before every fight.
