Undefeated Welterweight Kevin Morris Intends to Stay That Way on the Global Proving Grounds

Having followed up three straight amateur wins, Wisconsin welterweight prospect Kevin Morris has won back-to-back pro fights to start off his career a perfect combined 5-0.

When asked the key to his early success, Morris told MMAWeekly.com that it’s his training at Roufusport that has manifested in one word, “Confidence.

“It’s just confidence in knowing every time you train with them the potential rubs off on me. I feel strong, confident and feel like I have everything I need to win this and future fights. They give me everything and I’m going to use it.”

Having just started fighting this year, Morris was so impressive in his amateur outings that it just made sense for him to graduate to professional before the year was out.

“I went in there, listened to my coaches and followed the game plan they wanted me to go by and won (my amateur fights) fast,” said Morris. “With two second-round and one first-round finishes, I thought I was ready for some tougher competition.

“I feel like these are good guys to get me started, but right now I feel I’ve improved myself a little more, and hopefully after this fight I’ll face even tougher competition to test myself.”

The fight Morris is alluding to is his fight as part of the Global Proving Grounds portion of the Big Time Branson Rumble this Saturday in Branson, Mo., against veteran Iowa product Sean Huffman.

“I’m just going to try to figure out his weaknesses and then just go with my game plan,” said Morris. “Keep it standing up or take it down, whatever it takes to finish the fight sooner than later.”

Feeling he’s already come a fair bit forward in his young career, Morris thinks that after his experience with the GPG, he could be ready to take on some of the best competition available.

“In a couple more fights, I want to know what it feels like to fight a guy that people don’t think I can beat,” said Morris.

“Hopefully someday I can get into the UFC, that’s pretty much my goal. The sport is so high-level right now, so the better the competition, the more fun we have, so I’m looking forward to it.”
