Kyle Watson vs. Sako Chivitchian

Kyle Watson

Kyle Watson

Round 1: The round opens up with some nervous energy and the fighters end up against the cage in a clinch.  Sako has Watson pinned against the cage and is pummeling. A nice knee to the body, followed by an elbow to the face by Sako.  Watson turns into Sako and they separate.  They clinch once again and are against the cage, more pummeling and knees by Sako.  Watson uses a little ankle trip and briefly has Sako on the ground.  Sako stands up, but is slammed back down by Watson.  Sako stands up almost immediately and begins to swing wildly and a few hooks land to the chin of Watson and have him wobbled.  They clinch and separate, during the separation Watson lands a few nice wild punches of his own.  In the flurry, Watson manages to take Sako down, but like the other three times, Sako stands right back up.  Sako is stalking Watson and is landing nice combos as Watson tries to circle away.  The round ends with a body kick from Watson.  MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Chivitchian.

Round 2: A solid leg kick/left hook combo opens the round for Sako and Watson is stunned a little bit.  Watson shoots out of desperation and clinches with Sako.  Sako shrugs him off and they begin to pop jabs at one another.  Watson shoots but doesn’t set it up and eats a jab from Sako.  Watson is bleeding a bit form the nose.  Watson rushes Sako and pins him against the cage, however Sako just turns into him and now has Watson pinned and is landing some knees.  They separate and Watson lands a kick to Sako’s body.  A jab by Sako pops Watson’s head back and Sako is doing a fine job of peppering Watson with disruptive strikes.  Speaking of disruptive strikes, Watson just connected with Sako’s groin and there is a brief stop in the action.  The action restarts and Watson lands a snapping body kick to Sako’s ribs.  A few wild strikes by Sako allow him to close the distance and they are now clinched against the cage.  They struggle for position as each fighter takes turns switching position against the cage as they pummel.  The round ends with Watson holding onto Sako’s back.  MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Chivitchian.

Round 3: Both open the round with intense strikes, Sako getting the best of Watson with a solid right hook to the jaw.  Sako follows with a body kick that draws a reaction from the crowd.  A straight left from Watson snaps Sako’s head back a bit.  Sako looks intense as he fires off some aggressive jabs and hooks, but with very little, if anything landing.  The fighters are exchanging a myriad of strikes as we close in on one minute.  Neither fighter has taken a distinct advantage in the third round and the fight is still very close.  Watson clinches with Sako and is pressuring him agains the cage.  They separate and Watson lands a nice body kick to Sako’s ribs as the round comes to an end. MMAWeekly.com scores the third round 10-9 for Watson, but the fight 29-28 for Chivitchian.

Kyle Watson def. Sako Chivitchian by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28), R3
