CINCINNATI - A day after tempers boiled over and the two teams came to blows in a bench-clearing melee, the Cincinnati Reds called in an "Ace" for ceremonial first-pitch honors for today's game with the St. Louis Cardinals. Franklin fired a near-strike prior to the afternoon game at Great American Ball Park. It was the second time the Reds have honored Franklin, a Cincinnati-area native and University of Cincinnati graduate who also threw out a first pitch in 2005.
