UFC veteran Diego Sanchez posts grossest surgery photo in history of ever

UFC veteran Diego Sanchez boasts that a broken collarbone is only the second injury that’s required surgery in his 15-year career.

From the looks of it, he better hope he doesn’t need any more.

Sanchez (25-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC), a onetime lightweight title challenger, posted an insanely gross picture on his Twitter account of an operation to repair his collarbone, which apparently involved putting a metal rod and screws into his shoulder to secure the bone.

diego-sanchez-surgerySanchez sustained the injury this past week during training. His manager, Ricky Kottenstette, said a four- to six-week layoff is needed before he can resume training. (Kottenstette also manages the famed Jackson-Winkeljohn’s MMA in Albuquerque, N.M., where Sanchez trains.)

Less than two months is a considerably shorter period of time than many of the injuries that come along with a decade-plus career in MMA. UFC lightweight Bobby Green, an eight-year vet of the sport, posted a picture of a recent surgery to repair a torn quad. That stomach-turning photo documented an injury that will take five months to heal.

Sanchez, 33, was scheduled to fight Joe Lauzon at this past October’s UFC 180, but his injury forced him to withdraw. His most recent UFC fight came this past June at UFC Fight Night 42, where he won a highly controversial decision over Ross Pearson.

So is Sanchez’s surgery photo grosser than the one posted by Green when he went under the knife? We’ll let the two duke it out for barf bag trophy status in the poll below, so get out the vote.
