UFC vet Frankie Edgar's Ice Bucket Challenge: A for effort, F for execution

Frankie Edgar had the best of intentions with his Ice Bucket Challenge, but the execution left a little to be desired.

The personable former lightweight champion and current featherweight contender was the latest UFC notable to take part in the fundraiser and social-media phenomenon. UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey took part this past week, for example.

The basic gist of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is as follows: If challenged, you either dump a bucket of icy water on yourself, or you make a donation to the ALS Association (or both). Once completed, you get to challenge three people.

After receiving multiple challenges, Edgar took part on Sunday. He even included his sons and tried to make it a family affair. Unfortunately, he received more bucket than ice water.

Despite a bruised ego (and perhaps a literal bruise on his head), Edgar called out Stephen Rivera, Scott Goodale and Ricardo Almeida. Hopefully they have better results.

Edgar (17-4-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC), who’s ranked No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings, recently defeated MMA legend B.J. Penn, who retired after the bout. Edgar is now pushing for a December bout with No. 3 ranked Cub Swanson (21-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX 13.
