UFC signs Queen of Pancrase Rin Nakai to face Miesha Tate for Fight Night Japan

In perhaps the strangest move of late, the UFC has signed Queen of Pancrase star, Rin Nakai to take on women's bantamweight lightning rod, Miesha Tate for their September 20th Fight Night card which will take place in Japan. Nakai is undefeated at present, although I use "undefeated" very loosely, as the general consensus is that she has been a protected champion with a heavily padded record. Her 16-0-1 fight history is broken down by Jessica Hudnall here.

Despite the promotion's calculated moves to promote her at all costs, Rin has recently taken on better competition in her last few fights, to include wins over veterans Tara LaRosa and Sarah D'Alelio. The other significant standout fact about Nakai is the over-the-top way that Pancrase promotes the muscle-bound 27-year-old through video. The official Pancrase Youtube account features a variety of utterly strange clips of her doing various housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming an office in a skimpy costume, making dessert in nothing but an apron or clad in a small towel while Japanese beetles crawl over her.

I can't help but be reminded of Pride a bit when I think about the way Nakai is promoted, but this type of exploitation is something the UFC may want to consider more thoroughly. As always, Bloody Elbow will keep our readers up to date with fight announcements as they come in.
