UFC on Fuel TV 8 Fighter Bonuses: Wanderlei Silva Tops List of Bonus Winners

Wanderlei Silva at UFC 87Eight of UFC on Fuel TV 8: Silva vs. Stann’s first nine bouts went to a decision, leaving little wiggle room for company officials to award post-fight bonuses.

The final two bouts change everything.

Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann promised a knockdown, dragout brawl, and that’s exactly what they delivered. Each fighter crushed the other with an all-out blitz of punches in the first round, but it was Silva that channeled the “Axe Murderer” of old, connecting with a big right hand that put Stann out cold.

Silva is not a fighter that wins every fight because he’s always going for broke. That’s what fans love about him, however, and that’s what scored him a $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus.

Stann wasn’t left out in the cold, though. He and Silva also earned Fight of the Night honors for their bone-crunching battle, each man earning $50,000 for that honor.

Silva walked away with a total of $100,000 in bonus money.

There were no submission at UFC on Fuel TV 8, but Mark Hunt scored a second knockout bonus on the night. He fought a back-and-forth affair with rising heavyweight talent Stefan Struve, eventually cracking him across the temple with a big right hand, and then sending the seven-footer crashing to the canvas with his patented left hook.

The UFC doled out a total of $200,000 in announced post-fight bonus money.
