UFC on Fox 8 Bonuses: Johnson, Guillard, Herman, Smith Earn $50,000 Awards

Johnson and Guillard were awarded “Submission of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night,” respectively, while Herman and Smith shared “Fight of the Night” honors for their middleweight donnybrook.

UFC on Fox 8 took place at Seattle’s KeyArena and saw Johnson pull out a last-minute submission of John Moraga in the evening’s Fox-broadcast main event. The flyweight champion found himself one step ahead through the majority of the five-round contest, taking Moraga down 12 times and fishing for a far-side kimura on several occasions before finally securing his double wrist lock in the final frame and pivoting into a fight-ending armbar.

Guillard returned to his winning ways following back-to-back losses, as “The Young Assassin” relieved Mac Danzig of his consciousness in the second round of their lightweight contest. Guillard used his speed advantage early and often in the bout, rifling a stiff left jab into his foe’s face before finally scoring with a solid left hook that put Danzig on the mat and left him exposed for the violent ground-and-pound that would force referee Steve Newport to halt the bout.

Herman and Smith put on an exciting display of sustained violence during their undercard confrontation, with both men scoring with big punches throughout the back-and-forth 15-minute affair. Though the judges were split in their verdict, Herman was the man who saw his hand raised, marking the veteran’s eighth Octagon victory.
