UFC on Fox 4 Bonuses: Joe Lauzon Banks $100,000; Mike Swick, Jamie Varner Pocket $50,000 Each

Lauzon (Pictured, file photo) shares “FOTN” honors with dance partner Varner, who pulled down an extra $50,000 for his efforts Saturday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Additionally, Mike Swick returned from over two years on the shelf to win “Knockout of the Night,” as the American Kickboxing Academy product also pocketed $50,000 for knocking out DaMarques Johnson to open the Fox broadcast.

Varner and Lauzon wasted no time in trading leather, with Varner mostly getting the better of the exchanges en route to dropping Lauzon twice with right hands. Lauzon turned up the heat in round two as Varner began to fade, however, consistently touching the former WEC champion with clean shots before taking his back to end the frame. Varner dug deep in round three and scored with takedowns, but Lauzon countered with sweeps from the bottom, finishing the fight by locking up a triangle choke during a transition and forcing the tap.

Though Swick landed a hard right hand that staggered Johnson to start their welterweight contest, “Darkness” responded with some shots of his own before scoring a takedown and mounting Swick to end the stanza. “Quick” then lived up to his nickname by turning the tables early in round two, catching a kick from Johnson and planting the Utah native on his back before timing a swift right hand that knocked Johnson cold in the blink of an eye. The end came at 1:20 of the second frame.
