Round 1: Carmouche misses with a leg kick to start the fight.  Tate presses forward.  Tate lands a right hand.  She goes to the body with a front kick.  Tate moves in and Carmouche initiates the clinch.  They battle for position along the cage.  Carmouche works to get the fight to the ground and does.  Tate delivers elbows to the body while sitting with her back on the cage.  Tate lands short left hands.  Carmouche delivers right hands to the leg of Tate.  Tate stands.  Carmouche tries to take her back.  Carmouche lands knees to the thighs of Tate.  Carmouche takes Tate down.  Tate stands and isolates an arm.  Carmouche gets her arm free and lands a hard knee to the leg of Tate.  Tate works for another kimura and Carmouche slams Tate to the canvas.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Carmouche.

Round 2: They meet in the middle of the cage.  Tate paws with her jab.  Carmouche lands a left hand and Tate answers with a right.  Carmouche initiates the clinch and presses Tate against the fence.  Tate turns her and lands a knee to the body.  Tate works to get the fight to the ground.  Carmouche defends the takedown attempt.  She lands knees to the body and they separate.  Tate lands a left hook.  She lands another left on the inside.  Carmouche works for a single leg takedown and she gets Tate down.  Tate delivers elbows and stands only to be slammed to the canvas.  She works to get back to her feet.  Carmouche pulls Tate away from the cage.  Tate looks for a guillotine choke.  She gets to her feet but doesn’t have her arm under Carmouche’s chin.  Tate drops down trying to tighten up the choke attempt.  She flips Carmouche over and gains top position.  Carmouche powers back to her feet.  She moves to Tate’s back.  Tate rolls under and the round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Carmouche.

Round 3: Carmouche lands a leg kick and Tate counters with a combination.  Tate presses forward and tries to take Carmouche down.  She does.  Carmouche gets to her feet, but Tate drags her back to the canvas.  Tate is in side control.  Tate lands short elbows.  Carmouche gets back to half guard.  Tate takes Carmouche’s back.  Tate lands right hands as she works to get her other arm under Carmouche’s chin.  Two minutes remain in the round.  Tate continues to work for the choke.  She softens Carmouche up with right hands.  Carmouche stands.  Tate goes for the choke.  It’s in deep.  Tate flattens out Carmouche.  Carmouche rolls.  Carmouche defends the choke.  Tate looks for an arm bar.  Carmouche gets her arm free.  Tate stands and lands kicks to the legs of Carmouche.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Tate.

The judges scored the fight for Tate by unanimous decision.  All three scorecards read 29-28.

“It was very tough fight. We both have such a strong fighting spirit and I knew neither one of us would quit. It took me a little bit to get going and then finally, in the third round, I really got my energy up and was able to do what I do best. It feels great to finally get this first UFC win.”
