Saturday’s UFC on FX 8 event in Brazil featured a pair of highlight-reel finishes on the main card, both involving former Strikeforce champs making their UFC debuts.
But one was a good highlight for an ex-champ, while the other was a highlight for his opponent.
In the main event, Vitor Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) knocked out final Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) (Updated after UFC on FX 8) with a spinning back kick to the head, which certainly will go down as one of the biggest highlights of Belfort’s long career.
In the co-main event, Ronaldo Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who lost his Strikeforce title to Rockhold in September 2011, picked up a big submission win when he stopped Chris Camozzi (19-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in the first round.
Belfort won “Knockout of the Night” honors, while “Jacare” won the “Submission of the Night” bonus.
UFC on FX 8 took place Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card aired on FX after prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.
Saturday’s post-event news conference did not stream live. But now you can watch the full press event in full in the video player above, featuring Belfort, Souza and Rockhold, preliminary card fighters Gleison Tibau, Lucas Martins and more.
