JARAGUA DO SUL, Brazil – Saturday night’s UFC on FX 8 event drew an announced attendance of 7,642, though no live gate was announced.
UFC officials announced the figures at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended.
UFC on FX 8 took place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook. In the main event, Vitor Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) knocked out former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a first-round head kick.
In the co-main event, Ronaldo Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his UFC debut and submitted Chris Camozzi (19-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with a first-round arm-triangle choke. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion made easy work of Camozzi.
The event was the UFC’s seventh overall in Brazil and sixth after returning there with UFC 134 in August 2010. It was the UFC’s first visit, however, to Jaragua do Sul.
Belfort fought in the main event on FX in Brazil for the second straight time. In January, he knocked out Michael Bisping with a second-round head kick in Sao Paulo. On Saturday, he became the first fighter in UFC history to win two straight fights by head-kick knockouts.
