It will no doubt go down as one of the best knockouts of 2013 – and maybe in MMA history.

Vitor Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) on Saturday dropped Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a first-round spinning heel kick to the head, then pounced on him for several follow-up shots on the ground in the main event of UFC on FX 8.

UFC on FX 8 took place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.

Rockhold was making his UFC debut after wrapping his Strikeforce run as that promotion’s final middleweight champion. Belfort, meanwhile, became the first fighter in UFC history to win back-to-back fights by head-kick knockout.

In the co-main event, another former Strikeforce champ had a little better success than Rockhold. Ronaldo Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who lost his title to Rockhold in September 2011, stopped Chris Camozzi (19-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with a first-round arm-triangle choke. “Jacare” was a 6-to-1 favorite in the fight.

Also on the FX broadcast, Rafael Natal (16-4-1 MMA, 4-2-1 UFC) outlasted Joao Zeferino (13-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to win a unanimous decision. And Rafael dos Anjos (19-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) took a controversial unanimous decision from Evan Dunham (14-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) to open the main card.

Check out all the highlights above.
