Norman ParkeIt was an all Team UK affair in the lightweight finals of TUF: Smashes.  Former teammates Colin Fletcher and Norman Parke put their friendship aside and went to war for the illustrious six-figure UFC contract in Queensland, Australia.

On this night, it was Norman Parke who was able to put his black belt Judo skills on display with a unanimous decision win over Fletcher.

The Judoka clinched with Fletcher and scored two takedowns early.  Parke effectively controlled Fletcher through much of the round and landed short elbows.  In the last 30 seconds of the opener, Parke got over excited taking Fletcher’s back and wound up on the bottom in side control.

Parke immediately dragged the fight back down to the floor with a body lock takedown in round two.  For the first half of the round, Parke achieved mount and back control, but Fletcher managed a backdoor escape and went back to his feet.  Towards the end of the round, Fletcher was finally able let some strikes loose, but he was taken down yet again at the final bell.

In the third and final round, Fletcher came on strong.  He scored an upward elbow, a variety of body kicks, and some inside and outside leg kicks.  Parke, however, shifted the momentum back in his favor with two takedowns towards the end of the round.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Norman Parke (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

After the bout, Parke was crowned the TUF: Smashes lightweight tournament winner, and he improved his mixed martial arts record to an impressive 18-2.
