Court McGee vs. Costa Philippou

Round 1: Philippou immediately showing a lot of movement, trying to keep McGee from getting into a rhythm, although both men are good boxers. Philippous puts together a solid combination and then follows with an uppercut and left hook, staggering McGee just a bit. McGee regains his composure and lands a strong overhand right, but then eats a Philippou right cross when he attempts to kick. McGee keeps coming forward, but Philippou is avoiding most of what he throws and then countering with good two and three-part punch combinations and sneaking in single shots from time to time. McGee attempts to kick, but again eats a straight right counter that staggers him backward. McGee fakes and tries to shoot, but Philippou easily avoids the shot. McGee lands a good boxing combination, but again is stymied on the takedown attempt. McGee catches Philippou with a left hook on the temple just before the horn. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Philippou.

Round 2: McGee comes out firing, but eats a left hook that rocks him a bit. McGee is pressing again, but he’s eating some hard punch combinations, while Philippou appears to be gaining confidence as the fight wears on. McGee again tries to clinch for a takedown, but Philippou again defends well, and catches McGee with a right hook a short time later. McGee lands a switch kick to the body of Philippou. Philippou then fights off another takedown attempt and catches McGee with an uppercut that visibly hurt him. McGee clinches briefly, but Philippou fights out of it, dropping right into his comfort zone, landing punch combinations almost at will, and then drops in a solid body shot. McGee is still moving forward, but more hesitantly, and he’s covering up as he does. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Philippou.

Round 3: McGee immediately looks like he’s searching for a way to get some offense going, while Philippou is confident moving around, moving in and out on McGee, landing boxing combinations. After separating briefly for a low blow to Philippou, McGee finally scores his first takedown… but Philippou just as quickly regains his feet and goes back to work on McGee, throwing punches and then clinching and tossing McGee to the mat. McGee gets up and lands a flying knee, following with a switch kick. McGee then lands a leg kick, but eats a counter left hook that rattles his jaw. McGee moves in and lands a combination to the body, finally appearing to have some confidence, letting loose with a wide array of strikes. He lands a kick to the body and then attempts to go high and has it blocked. Philippou starts to dance away a little more now, trying stay away from the wild strikes that McGee is mixing in now. McGee grazes Philippou with a spinning backfist near the end of the round. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 for McGee, but the fight 29-28 for Philippou.
