Dennis Bermudez started fast and ended strong in his featherweight scrap with Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose on Saturday night. Bermudez, who lives in New York but trains in California, was changing levels and beating Guida to the punch from the opening bell.
In the second round, Bermudez finally was able to overwhelm the Jackson/Winkeljohn fighter, Guida. He mounted Guida along the fence and transitioned into a rear naked choke. The end came at 2:57 of the second round.

Lawler opened with a hard combination right out of the gate and set the tone. Brown ate those punches and stayed in tight. He briefly thought about a takedown but Robbie shrugged him off quickly.
"Ruthless" looked comfortable while "The Immortal" almost seemed sluggish. It could have been the punches Lawler was landing clean, of which there were many.
Brown slowed the action down with a kick. Then he landed a hard right hand that stopped Robbie in his tracks. He rushed in but couldn't quite find more
It didn't take long for the two to end up on the mat in the fourth. Lawler was on top and moving to pass from full guard to half to side control. Brown briefly threatened with a guillotine but he never had anything close to it.
Lawler started to suffocate his foe, landing a hard punch while Brown tried to stand up before grabbing his body and taking him down again.

Brown wasted no time working for a takedown to start the third round. He dipped in and snatched a single, working hard to complete it against the fence. The only problem was Lawler landed a big elbow that may have opened a cut in the process of all this.
Once they backed up, Robbie landed a hard left kick to the body.
Brown was backing off more here, perhaps pacing himself or wilting a bit under Lawler's pressure. Robbie was setting up for kicks and Brown was far too aware of it.

Patience was the name of the game early here. Brown went high with a kick but Lawler blocked it and stayed up. They were feeling each other out with feints and pawing jabs.
Another head kick missed but Brown followed it up with a body kick that landed with a slap. Just over two minutes in, Brown shot in for a takedown, completing it without much effort. Robbie did get right back to his feet and pushed away to reset in the center.

Before the round, Lawler's corner told him this was what he needed when he fought Johny Hendricks for the welterweight title and not to let it happen again. Brown's corner told him he needed to go out and get after it instead of walking like a wounded animal.
They both came out firing away with punches betraying the fatigue they were both surely feeling.
