FORTALEZA, Brazil – The UFC’s first trip to the Brazilian city of Fortaleza resulted in an attendance of 6,286. A live gate figure was not announced.
The total was announced at the post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended.
The event, UFC on FUEL TV 10, took place Saturday at Paulo Sarasate Arena in the state of Ceara. The main card aired on FUEL TV following prelims on Facebook.
The attendance total was the lowest figure out of seven cards since the UFC returned to Brazil in 2011. The four largest attendance totals all were pay-per-view events. Saturday’s card was the first show in Brazil to air live on FUEL TV. Earlier this year, a pair of cards aired on FX.
In Saturday’s main event, Fabricio Werdum stopped Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira with a second-round armbar. It was the last of eight submissions on the card, which broke the UFC’s record of six, which was shared by three different events. The 10 total stoppages on the card tied a UFC record.
In the co-feature, Leonardo Santos stopped William Macario with a second-round arm-triangle choke to win the “TUF: Brazil 2? title following the second Brazilian edition of the popular “Ultimate Fighter” reality series.
