mauricio-shogun-rua-15.jpgThe upcoming UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 event will feature five hours of live fights as both a six-bout main card and a four-bout prelimary card air on the new cable channel.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the plans with a FOX Sports 1 representative. However, the official said it hasn’t been decided if the same format will be used for future UFC on FOX Sports 1 cards.

As previously announced, UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 features a light-heavyweight headliner between former champion Mauricio Rua (21-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC) and recent middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen (27-13-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC). The card takes place at Boston’s TD Garden on Aug. 17, which is FOX Sports 1's launch date. FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 will replace FUEL TV and SPEED.

The night’s main card airs at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) following a prelims broadcast that starts at 6 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. Three fights are also expected to stream on Facebook and YouTube beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Filling out the three-hour main-card broadcast are heavyweights Travis Browne (14-1-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) vs. Alistair Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC), bantamweights Yuri Alcantara (28-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) vs. Urijah Faber (28-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC), welterweights Thiago Alves (19-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC) vs. Matt Brown (17-11 MMA, 10-5 UFC), middleweights Uriah Hall (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. Nick Ring (13-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), and lightweights Michael Johnson (12-8 MMA, 4-4 UFC) vs. Joe Lauzon (22-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC).

The night’s four-fight prelims broadcast includes a featured bantamweight bout between Michael McDonald (15-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Brad Pickett (23-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC).

With the channel’s new launch, all future UFC on FX and UFC on FUEL TV cards will shift to FOX Sports 1. Additionally, pay-per-view prelims specials also will move from FX to the new channel.
