Danny Castillo vs. Edson Barboza

Round 1: Castillo immediately looks for a takedown but Barboza defends the attempt.  Castillo steps in with a left hand.  Barboza glances a spinning back kick off the side of Castillo.  Catsillo lands a left hook.  Castillo moves in with a huge right hand that hurts Barboza.  He goes after him and lands another right hand.  He changes levels and takes Barboza down.  He mounts him.  Barboza escapes but Castillo lands shots.  Barboza pushes him off and tries to stand.  Castillo stays on him and lands short right hands.  Castillo takes Barboza’s back.  He works for a rear naked choke.  He gives it up and lands elbows.  Barboza is cut on the forehead.  He tries to control Castillo’s posture.  Castillo moves to side control but Barboza goes for a leg.  Castillo gets his leg out and lands several shots.  Barboza lands an up kick.  Castillo drops back in his guard and the round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-8 for Castillo.

Round 2: Castillo briefly looks for a takedown.  Barboza delivers an outside leg kick.  He lands another one and another.  Barboza lands a spinning back kick to the body.  Barboza delivers two hard outside leg kicks.  He narrowly misses with a spinning heel kick.  Barboza continues to land leg kicks.  He lands to the body with a left hand.  Barboza slips on a kick attempt and Castillo hits him with a left hook as he got back to his feet.  Castillo inches forward and lands to the body.  Barboza circles on the outside.  He lands a left hook that drops Castillo.  Barboza follows him to the canvas.  He applies guillotine choke but Castillo defends the submission attempt.  Barboza lands to the body and hammer fists to the head.  He lets Castillo up in the closing seconds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Barboza.

Round 3: They touch gloves to start the final round.  Barboza lands an outside leg kick followed by another.  He lands another one.  Castillo presses forward and lands a left hook.  Barboza steps in with a right hand.  Castillo pressing the pace.  He looks to get the fight to the ground but Barboza shakes off the attempt.  Barboza continues to land leg kicks.  Castillo steps in with a right hand followed by an inside leg kick.  Barboza lands a spinning back kick to the body that hurts Castillo.  Barboza lands a body kick.  Castillo pushes forward and lands a right hand.  Barboza answers with a counter left hook.  Barboza stuffs a takedown attempt by Castillo.  Castillo moves forward and Barboza takes him down.  They scramble back to their feet.  Barboza puts his hands in the air as the bell sounds.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Barboza.

The judges scored the fight for Barboza by majority decision.  The scorecards read 29-28, 29-28 and 28-28.
