NEWARK, N.J. – Gian Villante scored one the biggest upsets at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 15 event, and afterward, he credited opponent Corey Anderson for two things: his durability, and his acting skills.
In a FOX-televised preliminary-card bout at Newark, N.J.’s Prudential Center, Villante (13-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) chopped and chopped away at the legs of fellow light heavyweight Anderson (4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) before stopping the fight with third-round punches.
After the bout, Villante discussed “The Ultimate Fighter 19? winner’s ability to absorb his best leg kicks.
“He’s a tough kid,” Villante said. “He’s a hell of an actor because I tried taking his legs off, and he didn’t show me any weakness at all. He’s a real, real tough kid. (It was) a great fight. I know he’s got a real bright future. He’s a young kid. I wish I was 25.”
