UFC on FOX 11 results, photos: Jorge Masvidal outguns slumping Pat Healy

ORLANDO – Pat Healy did his best to gradually wear down Jorge Masvidal the way he has so many other opponents, but Masvidal came more than prepared, and in the end the judges rewarded his workmanlike effort with a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FOX 11 event at Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX.

Healy spent much of the fight trying to put Masvidal’s back against the cage, grinding away at him in the clinch en route to takedown attempts against the fence. And while that’s often a winning formula for Healy, Masvidal didn’t shy away from that style. If anything, he made it work for him more than against him, getting a few takedowns of his own before moving the action to the center of the cage where he dominated with his wide open striking attack.

Healy kept the pressure on as best he could for all three rounds, but it wasn’t enough. By the time the final horn sounded, Masvidal was clearly the one in control, not to mention the one who had done the most significant damage no matter where the fight took place.

“I trained my wrestling very hard for this fight,” Masvidal said. “My wrestling coaches were University of Oregon wrestlers and they got me ready for this. I knew Pat was a top-level grappler, so I had to come ready. And I definitely used my speed to my advantage and felt that I was quicker than him all night.”

Masvidal (26-8 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has won three of his last four. Healy (29-19 MMA, 0-3 UFC) has now lost three straight.
