Anthony Johnson's win over Phil Davis at UFC 172 instantly placed him among the light heavyweight division's top contenders in the latest UFC official rankings.

The top 2 fights at UFC 172 were the most significant ones in the light heavyweight division this year. Jon Jones remained the undisputed champion, but Anthony Johnson's win over Phil Davis really was the result that shifted several fighters around in today's updated rankings. Rumble soared from 14th to 5th, and with a win as impressive as his last Saturday you can only assume that big things are fast approaching for him as he confirms himself as a new contender.

Check out the latest rankings here, where you can use the dropdown menu to see the individual rankings of all panelists, including BE's own Tim Burke, Fraser Coffeen, and T.P. Grant.

Pound-for-pound: No changes. Jones remains the top P4P fighter in the world, with Jose Aldo and Renan Barao right behind him.

Flyweight: Chris Cariaso is now ranked 10th, switching with Brad Pickett who is now 11th. Cariaso fights next month against Louis Smolka. Upcoming title challenger Ali Bagautinov has somehow dropped from his joint 4th position with John Moraga to 5th.

Men's Bantamweight: Erik Perez rises to the 10th spot while Alex Caceres is bumped down to 12th.

Women's Bantamweight: Bethe Correia cracks the top 10 at exactly 10th, while Julianna Pena (11th) and Germaine de Randamie (12th) both move down one spot. There are only 16 women who have fought in the UFC, so 14th ranked Jessamyn Duke sees no change in her standing.

Featherweight: No changes

Lightweight: No changes

Welterweight: Erick Silva went to #14, swapping places with Ryan LaFlare. I have no idea why this happened outside of another convenient upping of Silva's ranking just before his big fight with Matt Brown at UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati.

Middleweight: Brad Tavares was tied with Thales Leites in the #14 spot, but he's been bumped to #15.

Light Heavyweight: As mentioned earlier, Johnson vaulted from 14 to 5, while Phil Davis fell from 4 to 7. Rashad Evans took Glover Teixeira's 2 spot following Teixeira's loss to Jones, and the Brazilian is now ranked 3rd. Daniel Cormier moves up one spot to 4th, and so does ... Vitor Belfort (from 13 to 12). Dropping in the rankings along with Davis and Teixeira are Chael Sonnen (7th to 9th), Ryan Bader (9th to 10th), Jimi Manuwa (10th to 11th), Rafael Cavalcante (12th to 13th), and Ovince St. Preux (11th to 14th).

Heavyweight: Stipe Miocic holds down 7th, breaking the previous tie for 6th he shared with Alistair Overeem.

A new force has emerged in the UFC's light heavyweight division. The funny thing about Anthony Johnson, who brutally destroyed Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to cement himself as one of the top contenders to the 205-pound champion, is that he got here in such a roundabout way. Back in the old days, before he became a punchline for his inability to make 170 pounds, Johnson displayed brief glimpses of fearsome power and finishing ability. Who can forget the untimely ends met by Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Kev more

Neither had the best performance of their careers at UFC 172 in Baltimore, Maryland this past May, but they may just get a chance to redeem themselves. Coincidentally, it could be a bout opposite one another. According to a report by Ariel Helwani on Fox Sports 1's UFC Tonight on Wednesday, a bout between UFC light heavyweight Glover Teixiera and Phil Davis has been discussed. Helwani noted the bout was possible and if it did take place, would be set for the fall of this year, but nothing has ye more

That's according to a report from UFC Tonight; however, nothing is official at this time. Teixeira (22-3) is fresh off a five-round shellacking at the hands of division kingpin Jon Jones. UFC media panelists were impressed enough by Conor McGregor's showing last Saturday to give him a spot in the top 10 in the featherweight division. The latest UFC rankings came out yesterday, and the biggest notable change coming out of the UFC Fight Night Dublin show was Conor McGregor making the top 10 of featherweight for the first time. It's a bit surprising that McGregor, who hasn't beaten a single ranked opponent en route to this spot, was rewarded as such, but I guess style points plays a more

Surging UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson absolutely steamrolled former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC on Fox 12 last night, requiring a measly 44 seconds to put the Brazilian's lights out. As fight fans have come to expect, Rumble came out swinging with bad intentions from the opening bell and didn't stop until he landed some vicious uppercuts against the cage. The Blackzilians team standout has now rattled off eight consecutive victories (seven knockouts) since being more

Following his FOTN win over Jeremy Stephens, Cub Swanson cemented his place as one of the UFC's top 3 featherweights in the latest rankings update. This past weekend's double dose of UFC Fight Nights ultimately was lacking in ranked fighters, save for the main event in San Antonio between Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens. Swanson's unanimous decision win not only greatly helped his rankings position, but he's all but earned himself a title shot and a rematch against one of Jose Aldo or Chad Mende more
