This isn’t the look of someone who’s headed to the sidelines with a broken thumb.
UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who was thoroughly dominant in a third-round TKO of Jessica Penne (12-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 69 headliner in Berlin, recently posted a picture of her right thumb in a cast (via Instagram). Still, she’s all smiles.

Jedrzejczyk, who notched her first title defense on UFC Fight Pass’ first streamed title fight (watch the Jedrzejczyk vs. Penne video highlights), broke her thumb during the fight. Her co-manager, Shu Hirata, told MMAFighting.com that surgery could be required, though a timetable wasn’t given for her recovery.
After her win, Jedrzejczyk, who aims to be the “Ronda Rousey of strawweight,” said she planned to take some time off before a return to the cage at year’s end. Depending on the 27-year-old Polish fighter’s recovery schedule, though, it could be even longer.
Despite the untimely injury – Jedrzejczyk, after all, is enjoying breakout-star status – Jedrzejczyk remains upbeat, as seen on her Instagram account:
