UFC announces 20-day media tour for UFC 167 20th anniversary show

georges-st-pierre-45.jpgThe UFC is gearing up for another blitz of a tour, this time centering around the promotion’s 20th anniversary.

UFC 1 took place in 1993 in Denver, and next month, the UFC will commemorate that milestone at UFC 167, which takes place Nov. 16 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Ahead of that 20th anniversary show, the UFC on Saturday announced it will send many of its star fighters out across North America over a 20-day stretch leading up to the UFC 167 pay-per-view.

Appropriately, the tour will start in Denver on Oct. 28, then traverses the continent with a mix of media events, fan events and sponsor events. In addition, the UFC will conduct a “social media scavenger hunt” that will allow fans to win prizes.

“We built an incredible card for our 20th anniversary, and now we’re hitting the road to celebrate with our fans and the media all across North America,” UFC President Dana White stated. “We’re going to cities that held historic UFC events and to locations we hope to bring the octagon to soon.”

Among the fighters expected to participate in the nearly three-week-long tour are champions Jon Jones and Georges St-Pierre, who defends his welterweight title at UFC 167 against Johny Hendricks; UFC Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes and Forrest Griffin; and standouts including Hendricks, Matt Brown, Brendan Schaub, Josh Koscheck, Gilbert Melendez and Daniel Cormier.
