There are six title fights currently scheduled between now and the end of the year. That's six fighters who have a chance to achieve the ultimate goal of being a UFC champion.
Unlucky for them, there are far more than six fighters who have a shot at being champions by the end of the year.
There are No. 1 contender matches scheduled, top-level fighters waiting for an opportunity to fight, and others who are waiting on the sidelines for their chance to fight for the title.
Everyone in the UFC want more
The UFC continues to snap up talent faster than you can say Jack Robinson.
Because the UFC is acquiring fighters at such a rapid pace, I've left a few people off my recent "Welcome to the UFC" scouting posts. Fighters like Sam Alvey, Kevin Casey, Leonardo Mafra (both Casey and Mafra are actually returning), and Rin Nakai and Tina Lahdemaki (who were each covered in seperate posts). Hopefully I won't have to do this much more, but with the accelerated rate at which the UFC appears to be signing t more
In the prime of his fighting career, Georges St-Pierre—the former welterweight king and pound-for-pound great—walked away from MMA just eight months ago, citing personal issues. Months after his departure, the MMA community gained greater insight on what St-Pierre’s concerns were partially hinged upon: the use of performance-enhancing drugs in MMA and the UFC. As the months went by, it became readily apparent that those sentiments were not unique to St-Pierre. Several other fighters, such as Bri more
The UFC has booked a bunch of fights over the last few days, and here's a rundown of what they put together. Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a bri more
Thomas Almeida got what he wanted.
The Chute Boxe bantamweight told MMAFighting.com last week that he wanted to knock Caio Machado out to win the Legacy FC 135-pound title and sign with the UFC, and that’s exactly what happened.
According to sources close to the situation, he signed a deal with the UFC on Tuesday. MMA Premium first reported the news.
Almeida stopped Machado with 33 seconds left in the first round to win the Legacy FC gold, improving to 17-0 in MMA with 17 finishes. He got past t more
So what's the next phase of the UFC's plan for global domination? Isn't it obvious? UFC pres Dana White is going to become the world's next Bobby Flay and the UFC is going to start a chain of Japanese Steakhouses! more
We've taken a look at the UFC's heavyweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. Today, we move down to what has historically been considered the UFC's marquee division: the light heavyweights. Like the heavyweight division, 205 is ruled by a title holder with an iron fist.
But there are plenty of challengers waiting in the wings and even a few interesting prospects who could make some noise over the next few years.
Let's take a look. The Title Picture
The UFC has nearly reached th more
Thomas De Almeida, the top bantamweight prospect in MMA and one of the brightest up-and-comers in the entire sport, signed with the UFC on Tuesday, according to reports.
The news originally broke via Brazilian site MMA Premium (translation h/t Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com).
The signing comes on the heels of Almeida's June 20 win over Caio Machado in the Legacy Fighting Championship promotion. The win netted Almeida the LFC bantamweight belt, and now, it has apparently netted him a contract more
When they're not taking on late replacements, the UFC has done a great job picking up the best young talent on the market.
With all the chaff that the UFC has filled out their ranks with, it's easy to lose track of the real prospects. Of course, that's why we produce impressive and well researched content like Patrick Wyman's prospect reports. It's the no. 2 prospect on said report that we're talking about today, as reports are in that the UFC has signed one of the world's best up and coming mid more
