UFC Quick Quote: 'Evolved' Chael Sonnen is not a fool on the ground

Might be time to re-think all those submission losses in MMA...

"It won't be easy... He has evolved and that's natural. If you fight MMA, you should know jiu-jitsu. That's a fact. That's why he trains jiu-jitsu like every other MMA fighter. Evolution is a consequence of training, and he has evolved a lot. I will train and fight by the rules, going for the submission on top or from the bottom. Who knows, maybe he'll pull guard. I have to be ready for every situation. If people think that (I will beat him up easily), I'm happy to hear that. But I see him as every other opponent. I must respect him and be ready for every situation in the fight to be able to win. He has competed at the highest level because he's a world-class wrestler, and in my opinion that's grappling. He's not a fool on the ground."

Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Andre Galvao (via MMA Fighting) is not going to underestimate retired Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Chael Sonnen, who agreed to headline the upcoming Metamoris 4 jiu-jitsu tournament scheduled for Aug. 9, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. That's because Sonnen has "evolved" as an athlete, perhaps evidenced by submission wins over Brian Stann and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and should not be taken lightly on the mats. In addition, "The American Gangster" is likely to have a distinct size advantage over the his welterweight counterpart. Sonnen, who was forced to call it quits earlier this month in the wake of a failed drug test, has been labeled a "perfect fit" for Metamoris, and once again finds himself paired off against one of Brazil's finest. Who ya' got?
