UFC Fight Night 95 results: Roy Nelson blasts 'Bigfoot' for second-round KO, then blasts ref McCarthy

BRASILIA, Brazil – Antonio Silva approached Roy Nelson with all the caution you’d expect for a veteran with his back against the wall. And initially, he had the right approach.

The only trouble was that eventually, Nelson (22-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) found a way through Silva’s (19-10-1 MMA, 3-7-1 UFC) defenses with those heavy hands and caught him flush in the second round, leading to a TKO.

The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 95 event at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia. It aired on FS1 following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The fight was over at the 4:10 mark of the middle frame when referee John McCarthy stepped in to stop Nelson from delivering any more damage to the downed Silva. Nelson later took issue with the stoppage, saying he shouldn’t have had to deliver more punches overhead.

It was an uppercut that sent Silva to the canvas for the first and last time. Nelson previously had found his target with the weapon, but it wasn’t until he mastered Silva’s timing that the end was set in motion.

Silva used his long legs in an attempt to keep Nelson from delivering his signature overhand right, and initially, the strategy worked. When Nelson closed in, he found his leg chopped at and his body attacked. Silva also found a left hook counter when Nelson cornered him.

None of the shots, however, were enough to keep Nelson from continuing to close the distance and look for that fight-ending shot.

Nelson’s victory puts him back in the win column after a decision loss to Derrick Lewis in his previous outing, while Silva drops to 1-5 with one no contest after a failed bid for the UFC heavyweight title.
