UFC Fight Night 86 post-fight facts: Dos Santos lands record number of body strikes


Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (18-4 MMA 12-3 UFC) produced a record output of strikes when he dominated Ben Rothwell (36-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC) for a decisive unanimous-decision win in UFC Fight Night 86’s headliner.

The heavyweight matchup headlined Sunday’s FOX Sports 1-televised event at Zagreb Arena, which marked the organization’s debut in Croatia. The 13-fight card had a mixed bag of results, but in terms of history-making performances, Dos Santos’ was the most significant.

Rothwell had his four-fight winning streak snapped for his first defeat since January 2013.

Rothwell suffered his first decision loss since Sept. 24, 2011 – a span of 1,660 days (more than four years) and seven fights.

Lewis’ six knockout victories in UFC competition since 2014 are the most among active fighters in the organization.

Lewis is the only fighter in UFC history to have his first eight appearances end in a knockout.

Gabriel Gonzaga (17-11 MMA, 12-10 UFC) fell to 1-4 in his past five UFC appearances.

Gonzaga fell to 5-5 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in January 2012.

Gonzaga’s 24 takedowns landed in UFC heavyweight competition are tied for third most in divisional history behind Cain Velasquez (29) and Randy Couture (25).

Gonzaga has suffered nine of his 11 career losses by knockout.

Damir Hadzovic (10-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Filip Pejic (10-2-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had his nine-fight unbeaten streak snapped for his first defeat since June 2012.

Pejic suffered the first submission loss of his career.
