UFC Fight Night 84 results: David Teymur stops Martin Svensson with big uppercut

LONDON – From the outset, it appeared Martin Svensson was moving in slow motion as he tried to strike with David Teymur.

As the fight went on, and a speed disadvantage revealed itself, Svensson (14-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) become more desperate to get the fight to the ground. But he was throughly thumped before he got his wish, falling prey to Teymur’s (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) punch.

The lightweight bout opened today’s UFC Fight Night 84 event at The O2 in London. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

The official end came at the 1:26 mark of the second round after a Teymur uppercut stopped Svensson in his tracks and sent him teetering to the canvas. It was Teymur’s first UFC win after a turn on “The Ultimate Fighter 22” alongside Svensson, who was eliminated from the reality show tournament due to an injury.

Professionally, Svensson goes back to the drawing board after a pair of wins on the international circuit. A recent recipient of jiu-jitsu black-belt, his takedowns become increasingly desperate as the fight wore on, while Teymur stuck to the basics and used his kicks to do damage. A particularly stinging body kick appeared to take the wind out of Svensson’s sails.

Teymur broke down with emotion following his win, happy to finally be fighting for the UFC.
