SEOUL – Saturday’s UFC debut in South Korea drew an announced attendance of 12,156 at UFC Fight Night 79.

UFC officials announced the figures at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie attended. No live gate total for the card was announced, as is typical with many “Fight Night” cards for the UFC overseas.

UFC Fight Night 79 took place at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. It was the UFC’s debut in South Korea. The entire event streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, former lightweight champion Benson Henderson (23-5 MMA, 11-3 UFC) fought fellow ex-lightweight Jorge Masvidal (29-10 MMA, 6-3 UFC) to a split-decision win in a back-and-forth five-round bout. The split call set a new UFC record for split decisions at one event with five.

In the co-main event, Dong Hyun Kim (21-3-1 MMA, 12-3 UFC) thrilled his home nation’s fans with a first-round TKO of Dominic Waters (9-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC). After his victory, he circled the cage, jumping on the fence and pumping his fist in the air to each side of the arena as the fans cheered him on.
