UFC Fight Night 78 post-fight facts: Neil Magny becomes UFC's 2015 wins leader

The fans got their money’s worth at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 78 event, which featured the most cage time of any fight card this year.

Although the final eight fights went the distance, the main event delivered in a big way. Neil Magny (17-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) and Kelvin Gastelum (11-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) turned in an action-filled five-round welterweight bout that saw Magny emerge with the split-decision victory.

The four split-decision finishes at UFC Fight Night 78 tied UFC on FOX 8, UFC Fight Night 20 and UFC 94 for the most of any event in company history.

Magny, Gastelum, Andre Fili and Polo Reyes earned $50,000 UFC Fight Night 78 fight-night bonuses.

UFC Fight Night 78 drew an announced attendance of 10,410. No live gate was announced for the event.

Betting favorites went 7-6 on the card.

Total fight time for the 13-bout card was 2:41:51. It marked the longest UFC event of 2015 and longest since The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale in April 2014.

Magny became the first fighter in modern UFC history to make five or more octagon appearances in consecutive years. He’s 4-1 this year after going 5-0 in 2014.

Magny’s has the most UFC victories (10) since 2013.

Magny became the first fighter to earn four UFC victories in 2015.

Magny became the 12th fighter in UFC history to earn 10 welterweight victories.

Magny has earned six of his 10 UFC victories by decision.

Gastelum was unsuccessful in his return to the UFC welterweight division.

Gastelum has completed at least one takedown against every opponent he has attempted to take to the ground in UFC competition.

Gastelum has suffered both of his career losses by split decision.

Ricardo Lamas (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) improved to 7-2 since he dropped to the UFC featherweight division in June 2011.

Lamas improved to 7-1 in UFC/WEC competition when he lands at least one takedown.

Lamas’ three takedowns landed in his victory were the most of his UFC career.

Diego Sanchez (25-8 MMA, 14-8 UFC) became the second fighter in UFC history to compete in four different weight classes. Kenny Florian also accomplished the feat.

Sanchez has fought to a decision 16 times in his UFC career, tied with Gleison Tibau for the most in company history.

Sanchez has suffered seven of his eight career losses by decision.

Henry Cejudo’s (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) three-fight UFC winning streak in flyweight competition is tied for the third longest active streak in the division behind champ Demetrious Johnson (nine) and Joseph Benavidez (four).

Cejudo has earned all four of his UFC victories by decision.

Cejudo has earned his past six victories by decision after stopping his opponent inside the distance in his first four pro contests.

Jussier Formiga (18-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) suffered his first decision loss since Feb. 18, 2011 – a span of 1,737 days (nearly five years) and 12 fights.

Erick Montano (7-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) fought to and won a decision for the first time in his career. He’d earned his previous six victories by stoppage.

Enrique Marin (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Efrain Escudero (24-10 MMA, 5-6 UFC) fell to 2-2 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in September 2014.

Escudero has suffered seven of his 10 career losses by decision.

Erik Perez (15-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) earned his first UFC victory since November 2013.

Bartosz Fabinski (13-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) extended his career-high winning streak to six fights. He hasn’t suffered a defeat since March 2014.

Fabinski has landed a combined 16 takedowns in two UFC appearances.

Fabinski has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Scott Jorgensen (15-12 MMA, 4-8 UFC) fell to 0-2 since he returned to the UFC bantamweight division in July. He hasn’t earned a victory in the weight class since December 2012.

Jorgensen fell to 2-8 in his past 10 UFC appearances. The four opponents he’s beat in UFC competition have a combined 4-13 record with the organization.

Jorgensen has suffered five of his past seven UFC losses by stoppage.

Gabriel Benitez (18-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Alvaro Herrera (9-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all nine of his career victories by stoppage.

Vernon Ramos (3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had his three-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Reyes (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all of his career victories by stoppage.

Cesar Arzamendia (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Michel Prazeres (19-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC victories by decision.
