UFC Fight Night 75 results: Uriah Hall spinning kick nets TKO upset of Gegard Mousasi

SAITAMA, Japan – Uriah Hall is no stranger to highlight-reel knockouts, but his knockout of favored Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 75 took things to a new level.

The middleweight bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC Fight Night 75 event at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2.

Mousasi (37-5-2 MMA, 4-3 UFC) quickly caught a kick from Hall (12-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at the start of Round 1 and utilized the captured limb to score a takedown. It took Mousasi little time to pass the guard and maneuver to side control, but Hall was able to regain guard before Mousasi could capture a arm or do any striking damage.

Hall was again forced to recover from a bad position moments later as Mousasi advanced to full mount. Hall quickly bucked and threatened with a heel hook. Mousasi found his arm in trouble as Hall quickly transitioned to an armbar attempt. Hall then found himself mounted once again as the wild grappling exchanges continued. This time, Hall gave up his back in effort to escape the mount. Hall fended off a rear-naked choke attempt to make it to the end of the opening frame.

Hall uncorked a beautiful jumping spinning back kick early in Round 2 and Mousasi’s legs immediately betrayed him. Hall followed the kick with a flying knee that kept Mousasi rocked. Hall continued to unload with strikes until the referee was forced to jump in and call a halt to the bout at the 0:25 mark of Round 2.

Mousasi entered the fight riding a two-fight winning streak. He stopped Dan Henderson with punches at UFC on FOX 14 and outworked Costas Philippou for a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 66. The loss was the first KO loss of Mousasi’s career.

Hall got back on the winning track in his previous fight, a TKO of Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC Fight Night 73. The victory came after a UFC 187 split decision loss to Rafael Natal that snapped Hall’s three-fight winning streak.
