UFC Fight Night 66 results: Jon Delos Reyes chokes out Roldan Sangcha-an in bloody thriller

PASAY, Philippines – A wild fight between Jon Delos Reyes and Roldan Sangcha-an came to a close when a bloodied Delos Reyes was able to sink in a rear-naked choke for the submission victory.

The flyweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 66 event at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims and a main card on FOX Sports 1.

Sangcha-an (4-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) came out throwing big strikes to start Round 1 only to eat some heavy return fire from Delos Reyes (8-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC). Sangcha-an scored with a takedown once the action settled slightly and began to throw some heavy elbows and punches from insidethe guard of Delos Reyes.

Delos Reyes used an omoplata threat to sweep and end up on top. Sangcha-an quickly gave up his back. When Delos Reyes was unable to finish a rear-naked choke he attempted to transition to an armbar. The action went back to the feet when the hold was not finished only to end up right back on the ground both men briefly holding top position and Delos Reyes landing some heavy punches.

Delos Reyes suffered a very bad cut over his right eye in Round 2. Despite the cut, both men threw wild strikes in a brief striking exchange early in the round. Delos Reyes scored with a big right hand that knocked out the mouthpiece of Sangcha-an and dropped the fighter to his back. After a brief stoppage to check the cut of Delos Reyes and return the mouthpiece of Sangcha-an the fight came to a close with Delos Reyes taking the back and sinking in a deep rear-naked choke for the submission at the 3:13 mark of Round 2.

The victory snapped a two-fight losing skid for Delos Reyes. He’d dropped fights to Dustin Kimura and Kyoji Horiguchi in his previous two octagon efforts and may well have been cut should he have failed to come away victorious.

Sangcha-an remains winless in the UFC, having dropped a unanimous decision against Richie Vaculik in his previous bout in the promotion.
