UFC Fight Night 57 results: Oleksiy Oliynyk stuns Jared Rosholt with first-round KO rally

AUSTIN, Texas – Oleksiy Oliynyk might not have started off so well against Jared Rosholt, but it didn’t matter after the way he finished.

One left hook from Oliynyk (50-9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) was all it took to spin Rosholt (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) around and knock him off his feet, forcing referee Kerry Hatley to step in and wave it off at 3:21 of round one.

The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 57 event at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. It aired on FOX Sports following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Rosholt seemed to get off to a great start early in round one, backing Oliynyk up against the fence with a flurry and hurting him with punches and elbows in close as Oliynyk covered up and tried to weather the storm. Rosholt stayed after him, yet couldn’t quite put him away, and soon seemed to be showing signs of over-exertion as the first round crossed the midway point.

An uppercut from Oliynyk landed as Rosholt leaned in with a slow lead punch, giving Oliynyk some much needed time and space to recalibrate and reset himself. As Rosholt came wading in with another big hook, it was Oliynyk’s left hand that found him first, cracking him on the jaw and dropping him to the mat.

From there, Oliynyk swooped down with one more hammer fist to seal the matter, but by then Hatley was already on his way in to stop it, and the matter was all but settled.

Oliynyk has now won 11 straight fights, and two in a row in the UFC. Rosholt loses for the first time in over two years.
