UFC Fight Night 47 set for Aug. 16 in Maine

UFC President Dana White today announced the promotion has booked the 5,800-seat Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine for a UFC Fight Night on Aug. 16.

White originally tweeted the card would take place one day earlier but MMAjunkie confirmed with UFC officials the card is actually scheduled for Aug. 16, and White later corrected his mistake.

The event is expected to serve as UFC Fight Night 47 and air on FOX Sports 1.

There aren’t any bouts currently linked to the card.

For White, the excitement to announce the fight is due in part to the proximity to one of his vacation homes, as well as his boyhood home of Boston.

“Bangor is a 3.5 hour drive from Boston and 2 hours from New Hampshire,” White wrote on Twitter. “This is a big one for me!!! So pumped.”

Maine has regulated professional MMA since 2009, but the lack of a suitable venue left the UFC unable to plan a trip to the state. The multi-purpose Cross Insurance Center opened in September 2013, and the UFC will stop by in the venue’s first year of operation.
